Tara Garrity, LCSW

Tara Garrity (she/her/hers) is a licensed clinical social worker dedicated to supporting adults as they navigate identity, emotional well-being, and life’s many transitions. She specializes in working adults, especially members of the LGBTQ+ community—particularly transgender and gender‑expansive individuals—and those exploring identity, anxiety, depression, trauma, or major life changes.

Her approach is collaborative, supportive, and strengths‑based. She strives to create a safe, affirming space where clients can explore their experiences openly and without judgment. She tailors therapy to client’s unique goals and lived experiences, drawing from evidence‑based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for anxiety, and EMDR.

Tara earned a Master of Social Work degree in 2010 and has been a licensed clinical social worker in Missouri since 2013. Since 2005, she has worked in a variety of positions including child welfare, private practice therapy services, writing adoption home studies, advising students in a federally funded TRiO program, and providing case management services to individuals living with HIV. She also spent several years in higher education and was coordinator of the social work field education program at Missouri Southern State University before moving into providing individual therapy to adults at a certified community behavioral health center.

Tara is deeply passionate about equality for all and working with individuals who have been marginalized or underserved. She has had the opportunity to advocate for others through presentations on diversity, equity, and inclusion with the transgender population, as well as allyship and advocacy with the LGBTQ+ population. She has also provided education on these marginalized populations within the courses she taught in higher education.

Tara views therapy as a collaborative partnership—one where the client’s voice, strengths, and autonomy are central. Her goal is to support clients in moving toward greater clarity, healing, and self‑understanding, with some humor along the way. She loves this work because she genuinely cares about helping people grow, heal, and reach their goals. She believes it’s an honor to walk alongside clients as they create meaningful change in their lives.
